How do I offer a Consultant a contract, and how do Leafr contracts work?

How to offer a consultant a contract on Leafr, set terms and manage project agreements securely through the platform.

Updated over 5 months ago

When you've found the right consultant from the people who have applied your sustainability project, it's easy to offer them a contract on Leafr.

How contracts work on Leafr

At Leafr, every project starts with a clear, straightforward contract that protects you as a client. We handle the legal and compliance side, so you don’t have to.

Leafr project contracts are between us (Leafr), and you. The Consultant will also need to accept a project scope separately. We've designed our contracts with lawyers to provide a positive working relationship while protecting you in case things go wrong.

When you agree to a project, we contract the independent consultant directly. That means you get the benefits of expert support, without taking on the risk or admin. Each agreement spells out exactly what the consultant will deliver, for what price, and by when. It also includes confidentiality, IP protection, and standard commercial terms, giving you the clarity and control you’d expect from any top-tier provider, minus the overhead.

How to offer contracts on Leafr

From the Contracts tab

Navigate to your project details page and click the "Send Contract" button, or go to the "Contracting" tab if you're already viewing an active project.

The contract form will appear where you can enter all the necessary legal and project details.

Enter any additional deliverables or project scope in the designated text area, describing exactly what work the consultant will deliver.

Setting Contract Terms

Choose between "Daily rate" or "Fixed Cost" contract types depending on how you prefer to structure the engagement. If you select daily rate, specify how many days per week the consultant will work on your project.

Set the start date and end date, or toggle the "Indefinite" option for longer-term engagements lasting six months or more.

Rate and Payment Configuration

The system automatically calculates the total project fee and first invoice amount based on your contract type and duration.

Add any additional scope or terms in the provided text area if you need to specify extra requirements.

Contract Review and Sending

Add your digital signature in the signature field to authorise the contract terms. Once you're satisfied with all terms, click "Send Contract" to initiate the billing and delivery process.

Next Steps

After completing billing setup, the contract is automatically sent to the consultant for their review and signature.

You'll receive email notifications when the consultant signs the contract, allowing work to begin immediately.

The signed contract appears in your project dashboard where you can track progress and manage ongoing communication with your consultant.

During projects

The contract terms will cover you and the Consultant for the duration of the project. Some terms, such as our non-solicitation and permanent hire clauses last for up to a year after the project ends.
